Musculoskeletal physiotherapy is the term used to describe the field of physiotherapy practice that relates to disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Musculoskeletal physiotherapists are physiotherapists with advanced training in the assessment, diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions, such as:
- neck and back pain
- sports injuries
- muscle, joint and arthritic pain
- occupational strain injuries (such as RSI)
- work and motor vehicle related injuries
Techniques in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy involve:
- active and passive examination and treatment
- therapeutic and specific home exercises
- pre and post surgery rehabilitation
- joint mobilisation
- advice on posture and movement disorders
